November 14th marked the last Pitch in for the Parks events at Loyola Park. In 2020, we held 4 clean-up events: July, Sept., Oct, and November.
We had an amazing turn-out at all four events due to many local high school students at schools like Von Stuben and Mather seeking service hours. The lack of options for them due to the pandemic restrictions was a boon for the parks.
The Chicago Parks Foundation spearheaded these events, helping promote them and provided supplies like gloves, water and trash bags.
LPAC invested in some handy-dandy trash grabbers to help make the pick-ups easier.
The community response was very positive and over the summer, we saw many community members conducting their own clean-up events. The park was a respite for many this year and usage expanded with social distance.
Things we saw people doing in Loyola Park this summer:
exercising using the trees
What did you see that made you smile?
